Position Title
Infant Teacher

Typical Hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Hourly Wage Range: $15-$20 depending on experience

Position Summary
The Infant Teacher is responsible for a classroom of children 0-2 years of age. The Teacher will work collaboratively with assigned support staff to ensure the successful operation of a classroom in compliance with State licensing approved child to adult ratios. The Teacher, along with families and colleagues, works to achieve meaningful progress of each child along their own unique developmental path toward school readiness goals. The Teacher will also implement a Christian-based curriculum, as directed.
Primary Responsibilities
The Teacher will ultimately be evaluated on a combination of skills, dispositions, and behaviors, some of which are related to the specific service area of this position and others that represent general expectations of all Mama Bear Daycare employees.
- Supervises assigned group of children at all times
- Supervises classroom aides and volunteers assigned to their group
Infant-toddler Growth & Development
Uses knowledge of the principles of child growth and development to work with children and communicate with families, internal and external stakeholders.
- Implements child-centered daily routine, curriculum and learning environment that encourages the development of age-appropriate positive social interactions, active exploration/ engagement in learning, and self-motivation (curiosity) to promote development in all domains for children of all abilities
- Understands the development of self-regulation in infant-toddlers as well as age-appropriate expectations for prosocial behaviors
- Creates a nurturing, responsive environment that promotes positive development of social and emotional competencies
- Observes closely and with understanding to determine possible causes of challenging behavior, implement preventive measures, teaching children new social and communication skills in partnership with families
- Uses observations of children and anecdotal notes to document children’s progress and individualize curriculum
- Creates partnerships with families to establish positive interaction patterns in programs, school, and home
- Participates in assigned meetings, events and training as required
- Maintains confidentiality regarding staff and family information
- Present at work to provide consistency of services
- Contributes as a team member in a positive/productive manner
- Demonstrates commitment to mission, values, and policies in the performance of daily duties
- Follows agency procedures to ensure reporting of suspected child abuse and/or neglect
- Follows agency procedures in reporting any suspected licensing deficiencies observed at center
- Reacts productively to change and handle all other work-related responsibilities as assigned
Qualitifications
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must have obtained one of the following: 750 hours of qualifying teaching experience in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable program or One year or 1500 hours of qualifying teaching experience in a Registered of Certified Family child care or Documentation of attaining at least step six in the Oregon Registry or Nine qualifying quarter credits in two CKC’s or Associate’s degree from a college/university with an approved major field of study or A state/nationally recognized credential, e.g. Child Development Associate (CDA)
- Background checks are required for this position
- Ability to pass an employment drug screen, if applicable
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- First Aid/CPR Certification or ability to obtain
- Current Food Handler’s card or ability to obtain
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds in a Christian-based program
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated computer literacy skills, using MS Office applications and other basic data systems including internet navigation
Working Conditions
- Work with physically active infants/toddlers in the classroom, as well as during meal periods
- Extensive standing, walking
- Moderate sitting, kneeling, bending.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
